OASIS – a new multidisciplinary work in progress
Oasis is a work in progress performance and immersive environment that invites the audience into a shared soft landscape of rest, presence, imagination and subtle transformation. The work combines dance, live and composed sound, light and textile art into a multisensory space where performers and audience share the same ground, instead of being separated, we coexist.
One of the core artistic elements of Oasis is a soft landscape built from recycled and donated duvets and pillows, sculpted into organic forms led by textile artist Sannu Vaarala. This landscape will be further shaped through a community workshop, where local participants of all ages are invited to physically shape the material together with the artists. The audience later lies, sits or rests on this same soft environment during the performance.
The textile installation aims to create a soft, safe, welcoming and touchable landscape that invites people to come close, stay, lie down, feel and sense together. At the same time, it leaves space for experimentation, playfulness and unexpected elements to appear. Like in nature, atmospheres shift and transform: softness opens into tension and vibrancy, stillness into movement, silence into sudden sound. Dance, sound and light create a constantly evolving sensory environment where imagination, surprise, sensitivity and aliveness coexist.
The work resonates strongly with the theme collective resilience. It offers a place where people can rest together, breathe together, sense themselves and each other, and experience art without pressure. Participants are welcome to close their eyes, listen, or simply be present. Recovery always begins in the body.
The artistic team consists of dance artist Titta Court, textile artist Sannu Vaarala, musician Philippe Ollivier, and lighting designer Anna Lindkvist. The work is still in progress and will continue to develop throughout 2026-27.
